Emma went in for her 6 month checkup today. She was wonderful and happy, as always. Well, at least until the vaccinating started. Lorelei was with us as well. She was not too happy herself about the idea of Emma getting shots. After the doctor had checked Emma over and as we waited for the nurse to return with the shots, Lorelei said that she didn't want the nurse to give her baby vaccinations. Aside from the sweet sentiment, I was impressed that she was using the word for vaccination and not the simpler version of shot and I also noted that Lorelei referred to her sister not by her name but with the tag, my baby. How very sweet.
Now back to the star of this entry - Emma. She weighed in at 17 pounds and 13 ounces. That is actually a weight loss! Still it is respectable enough to place her in the 93rd percentile. Her length (although with Emma's desire to get up and walk now - pretty soon I might actually start thinking in terms of height) is 2' 3" (27 inches). That also places Emma respectably in the 93rd percentile for her length. The girls' pediatrician, Dr. Sepetka, said that Emma's weight is in perfect proportion with her length. "She looks the way babies are supposed to look," she told us. (Although we never received this kind of reassurance from her when Lorelei was 6 months old.) Emma is just about 6 months old, but wearing 9 month clothing comfortably. She is in effect making up the difference for her parents' poor planning in having two girls 5 months apart. So Lorelei's clothes at 9 months (January), Emma is able to wear now.
After 8 ounces of milk, our beautiful Rubenesque Emma drifted off to sleep this evening. I hope that the four puncture wounds on her thighs don't bother her too much this evening!
