The girls' caretaker, Nolvia, died within days of discovering that she had cancer. It spread from the pancreas, to her liver and rapidly spread to other organs. Her final two days were intensely painful. The cancer reached her esophagus making it impossible to eat or drink.
We are indebted to Nolvia in so many ways. Lorelei was raised by Nolvia for just over 3 years. It is so much to her credit that Lorelei is fluent in Spanish. From Nolvia, Lorelei learned to count, her colors, her numbers, countless songs, and I dare say the love of learning. Nolvia gave Lorelei her first doll.
Emma won't remember the incredible woman that also cared for her and made sure that she had her first pinata, but Lorelei will. We told Lorelei that Nolvia is in the heavens (heaven/sky). She can't wait for the day when Nolvia will pass over our house.
